(Washington)—The Biden Harris Administration’s initiative to promote naturalization across a host of federal agencies is an exciting strategy to expand access to the citizenship process to millions of immigrants.
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) supports the interagency strategy, announced earlier this month by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). This approach is a smart way to ensure federal agencies are all on the same page when it comes to promoting naturalization.
“The ILRC hopes this strategy expands awareness and access to becoming a citizen for so many deserving immigrants who have already contributed greatly to their adopted country,” said ILRC Supervising Attorney Alison Kamhi. “The administration’s efforts here are much appreciated and we hope this strategy breaks down current barriers to becoming a citizen.”
The Naturalization Working Group (NWG) will be comprised of representatives from these agencies: USCIS, Education, Health and Human Services, State, Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Defense, Justice, Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration.
The ILRC, as part of the New Americans Campaign, looks forward to working with the NWG on strategies regarding naturalization in the near future.
