(Washington)—The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) condemned members of the House for passing a budget resolution giving the Trump administration billions for the president’s anti-immigrant agenda.
“This budget is disgraceful. It will funnel billions away from essential programs like Medicaid and health programs for children toward mass deportation, the building of detention centers, and other hateful tools to fulfill the racist and hateful scheme targeting immigrant communities,” said ILRC Policy Director Sameera Hafiz. “If this budget proposal is enacted, communities across the US will see critical resources disappear, making it harder for struggling working families to afford basic necessities.”
“Congressional policymakers are all too eager to strip services aimed at helping children, families and students, along with cutting programs that keep our air and water clean, repair transportation infrastructure, and keep critical federal workers in jobs that protect lives,” Hafiz added. “We sincerely hope these services and programs are not further compromised through the reconciliation process.”
The ILRC, along with partners, are asking all members of Congress to vote against giving another penny toward Trump’s deportation machine and urges constituents to hold their representatives and senators accountable.
“The focus of all members of Congress should be on what is best for their constituents. Prioritizing hateful policies that rip immigrant families apart devastate and harm everyone,” Hafiz said. “The ILRC will continue to fight for all immigrant families regardless of their contact with the criminal legal system.”
