When Immigration Enforcement Goes Local and Results in Racial Profiling: Lessons Learned from Ortega Melendres, et al., v. Arpaio, et al. – New Podcast

Featuring Bill Hing

On May 24, 2013, U.S. Federal District Judge G. Murray Snow found that Maricopa, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio had violated the constitutional rights of Latinos by engaging in racial profiling through targeted raids and traffic stops in Maricopa County.  In his ruling, the judge noted that Arpaio had focused on arresting immigrants suspected of being in the country unlawfully, at the expense of fighting crime. As we stand on the eve of comprehensive immigration reform, this podcast discusses lessons learned when local law enforcement takes federal immigration enforcement into its own hands.
